Indian Bride Abandons Wedding After Groom Fails Simple Maths Test

Posted in: , , , ,

Less than a month after one Indian bride married a guest at her wedding following a collapse by her groom-to-be, whose epilepsy was not disclosed to her [read here], another Indian bride has walked out of her wedding because her groom-to-be failed to solve a simple maths problem, according to various news reports.

Local police in Uttar Pradesh said they mediated between the families, and both sides returned all the gifts given before the wedding. BBC reports that the groom's family tried to convince the bride to return, but she refused saying the man was illiterate. The bride asked the groom to add 15 and six. When he replied 17, she called off the marriage.

30-Year-Old Woman Needs Advice To Help Her Leave Abusive Marriage

Posted in: , , ,

I am Mrs. Uche, I got married 2 years ago to a man who lives and works abroad.  I am currently going through some hell called marriage. I am abused psychologically, emotionally, financially and otherwise.

It all started a year after our wedding. That same sumptuous guy I thought was an angel changed automatically into a legendary nightmare. I stopped seeing those characteristics I thought he had before we walked down the aisle to profess our love.
He became so arrogant, wicked and proud.

An Arranged Marriage At 17, Divorced By 31 - My Experience By Amara Blessing Nwosu

Posted in: , , ,

I was reading further on teenage marriage and abuse in Nigeria and came across the story of Ms Amara Blessing-Nwosu who was made to go into early marriage for her father/ family considerations. She was married for 14 years, during which she had four children - two boys and two girls - but the marriage collapsed 5 years ago due to abuse. Amara is now a writer and relationship consultant, counseling young people on relationship and health issues, and managing an NGO, the Dorcas Generation Initiative.

Real Love Story - A Romantic Liaison Mediated By Her Uncle

HOW DID YOU MEET EACH OTHER?

Chinwe: One day in May 2010, an uncle - my maternal aunt’s husband - called to say he had a surprise for me. Expectedly I was excited although I didn’t have a clue what the surprise could be. He then said something like, “There’s a handsome, nice, God-fearing etc etc young man here that I think you’d love to meet. He’ll make a great husband.” What??? I couldn’t believe he said that! He didn’t even ask if I was in a relationship or something. I believe in meeting guys myself (especially Mr Right!) and I totally detest third party-mediated romantic liaisons.

Would you Get a Husband From Your Village?

Posted in: , , ,

In a recent interview, a Nigerian musician - Eva Alordiah - expressed her dream to marry a Nigerian man stating, "I am single but not searching. My mother is working on that. She is going to get me a husband from the village. I don’t know how the search is going for her though. I think Nigerian men are fine, we have the best crop of men in Nigeria."

One would immediately assume she must have been joking about the "husband from the village" part, but it's not so far fetched. We have discussed getting husbands and wives from Nigeria on this blog, but taking it a step further by having parents find a "virgin" from the village is exactly what some men and women in Lagos and other cities or outside the country do. The question is, as a woman, would you?
